The Walther Rathenau Institute is awarding this year’s Walther-Rathenau-Award posthumously to the late former German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. The exceptional politician is being honored for his work towards a peaceful world order based on international understanding. “Guido Westerwelle’s vision of a world free of nuclear weapons is a legacy that the Rathenau Institute would like to make a small contribution to preserving with this year’s award,” said Hartmuth A. Jung, Chairman of the Institute’s Board of Directors, in the citation. Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen and Governor of New Jersey Philip D. Murphy will deliver the laudatory speeches.
