The Walther Rathenau Institute, Foundation for International Politics, is awarding this year’s Walther-Rathenau-Award 2021 to the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel. The exceptional politician is being honored for her political life’s work and her tireless commitment to a world order based on understanding. In particular, her committed advocacy of reconciliation with our neighbors and for the expansion and strengthening of European structures has earned the respect of German European policy and stands in the Rathenausch tradition of trusting cooperation between peoples.
